First timer

Well, let me say that this is the first time putting myself in this blog. So what do you blog about?

I have no clue at the moment. Right now I just have some spare time before my badminton game. So I figure that I can write something.

This morning, I was browsing through The Star Citizen's Blog and there were some comments on the state of our local artistes.

There were some comments that I put up if some of you may realize. To be fair, I would say some of our local artistes made it and some did not and ended up as "jaguh kampung".

Honestly, I have not heard any of our local bands made it internationally or even widely in Asia. The only bad I knew made it is now too old. So basically, none of them exist today or they are near retirement age. Please let me know if there are any Malaysian band who won any international or even Asian award other than Malaysia.

For solo artistes, we only have Siti Nurhaliza. That's about it. OR is it? Actually there are a number of popular Chinese artistes from Malaysia who is now based in Taiwan and China. A number of them won different awards from different countries. They are actually selling more records than those "Jaguh Kampung" singers. Don't put Guy Sebastian as a Malaysian as he is no longer a Malaysian. We cannot be proud of what he did. So when is our local singers going to break from their cocoon and emerge as an international star?

Our local actors/actresses are no better. People from all ages and races flock to see Jackie Chan. But can we reach that? I cannot recall a good local movie. All the local movies are either too lame or a product of copying a western counterpart. Having a movie shown in Cannes does not count unless you win. Movies from Singapore are shown even in China and Taiwan.

So is there there a light at the end of the tunnel? You tell me. The entertainment industry is tough and cruel sometimes. We do have some talents in Malaysia. But it needs to be harnessed properly. Some of these artistes does not even have a direction of where they are heading. Some companies does not even have a long term plan for them. So we will forever be behind.
Jaclyn Victor has a good talent, but don't just let her sing in RTM programs every night. Put up a good marketing run across Asia. Then go all the way!

Now, the light at the end of the tunnels cannot be done by talent alone. The recording companies and production companies have to push hard.

Good luck to the artiste wannabes.
